**Discovery Education Experience is being offered to our whole district for free right now as we deal with the fallout from school closings. It will be free for the rest of the year and offers an extended database of multimedia resources and activities BEYOND the techbook offerings we already have.
In addition to what we have been offering through the library/media department, we have now activated the following being offered for FREE during this time due to the necessity of school closings.
- Newsela, which a number of GCS teachers have access to via free accounts already, has now been upgraded to the full Newsela information suite for all of our staff to utilize with their students. Teachers without accounts can create accounts. As long as they are associated with GCS, they will get the full package. I’ve logged into my account, and I can verify it’s already working for us. Free content includes current event articles ONLY, full content includes everything they offer beyond that. This resource can be integrated with Canvas. Teachers should be able to pull in classes and assign articles. 20% of the articles are available in FIVE levels of Spanish. All articles are available in FIVE levels of English. All articles include a 5-question quiz. If resources all pulled from the ELA or PRO collections, the questions focus on literacy standards/skills. If resources are pulled from the social studies or science modules, questions are more focused on those content areas.
- BrainPOP, all versions, are now available to our whole district whether or not your school has any sort of subscription. They asked that I create a simple username and password for all staff/students to use rather than have every teacher sign up for a free account at this point. Here is the username and password.
